Bio

Valeria Gelman is a Program Coordinator at the WRI’s Ross Center for Sustainable Cities where she supports a diverse team of experts with project management and research tasks for the flagship World Resources Report (WRR) on Cities.

Valeria joined WRI coming from the Urban Ecology Agency of Barcelona where she worked on projects related to public space and mobility that aimed to restructure city ordinance in order to prioritize citizens over transportation and enhance public space as a “common living room” for everyone in the community.

She holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Urban Environmental Ecology from the University of Helsinki, Finland, and a Bachelor’s in Education, Foreign Languages and International Studies, from Salisbury University. Besides formal training in these disciplines, she is constantly exploring her other interests in public space and placemaking, urban design, sustainable building practices, urban agriculture and tourism. She is also an avid cyclist and has been committed to this mode of transportation for the last ten years. Having lived, worked and traveled throughout the world, Valeria’s perspective is global and she strives to apply her skills, knowledge and experience to help build stronger communities by promoting alternate modes of transportation, active living, and socially healthy lifestyles.

Valeria loves travelling, and has completed a year long trip around the world in 2011-2012. Her other passions include hiking, dancing, gardening and photography.
