EPA protects human health and the environment from unnecessary exposure to radiation. EPA does this by setting protective limits on the radioactivity in soil, water and air that comes from human use of radioactive materials. EPA also provides technical advice on federal radiation protection and helps state and local responders respond to radiological emergencies.
