Ryan Van Wert , MD

Ryan is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University. Born in Toronto, Canada, Ryan obtained his engineering degree at Queen's University (Kingston, Canada) as a Loran Scholar, and graduated with the University Medal in Chemical Engineering. He completed medical school and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto, and served as Chief Medical Resident.

Research experience includes summers in basic science laboratories and in the pharmaceutical industry, with projects requiring engineering expertise. He consulted on an eye-controlled keyboard (an assistive technology device) for his final-year engineering project on a multi-disciplinary team. In residency, he published a meta-analysis related to renal replacement therapy in the intensive care unit. Ryan plans to combine his background in engineering and medicine through a career in medtech, coupled with clinical interests in Sleep and Intensive Care Medicine. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, cycling and travel.
