James R. Tobin has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Boston Scientific Corporation, a Medical Device Company, since March 1999. Mr. Tobin served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Biogen, Inc., a biotechnology company, from February 1997 to December 1998 and President and Chief Operating Officer of Biogen from February 1994 to February 1997. Prior to joining Biogen, Mr. Tobin was with Baxter International Inc., a health care products company, where he served as President and Chief Operating Officer from 1992 to 1994, as Executive Vice President from 1988 to 1992 and in various management positions prior to 1988. Previously, he served at Baxter as Managing Director in Japan, Managing Director in Spain, and President of Baxter's I.V. Systems Group. Mr. Tobin also served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972. Mr. Tobin has been a Director of Applera Corp.-Applied Biosystems Group and Applera Corp-Celera Genomics Group since 1999. He has been a Director of Boston Scientific Corporation since 1999 and Curis Inc., since February 2000. Mr. Tobin currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and the Carl J. Shapiro Institute for Education and Research. Mr. Tobin was a Director of Creative BioMolecules, Inc., an antibody and developmental biology company, from January 1995 to July 2000. He served as a Director of PathoGenesis Corporation since January 1999. Mr. Tobin is a Graduate of Harvard Business School, with an M.B.A., and of Harvard College, with a B.A.
