Ronald W. Dollens is the retired president and chief executive officer of Guidant Corporation, which has pioneered lifesaving technology for millions of cardiac and vascular patients worldwide. He served in that capacity from 1994 to 2005. He is currently the non-executive chairman of the board of Kinetic Concepts Inc. and a director of ABIOMED Corp. Dollens became the head of Guidant when it split off from Eli Lilly and Co., where he had held the position of president of the Medical Devices and Diagnostics Division from 1991 until 1994. He earned a bachelor of science in pharmacy from Purdue University in 1970 and a master of business administration in marketing from Indiana University in 1972. Among his honors and awards are being named one of the 50 best CEOs in America by Worth Magazine in May 1999 and honorary doctorates from Purdue University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He also served as chairman of the 2003 United Way of Central Indiana. He is the past chairman of the board of Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) as well as chairman of the Healthcare Leadership Council.
