Balaji is a 2013 Stanford India Biodesign Fellow. He graduated from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in 2010 with a Dual Degree (B.Tech and M.Tech) in Engineering Design. He has worked as a Research Engineer at Siemens Corporate Research and Technologies India post his graduation and was involved in developing technologies for portable medical devices. He has worked on the design and development of patient monitoring systems and has a firsthand experience of medical product design from scratch to being market-ready in India. He started his career working on machine design of automated qualification and quality processes in the food grain industry. While at grad school, he also worked on a product called ‘Autofilip’, a book reading aid intended for bed-ridden patients which was showcased at the ‘Made in Brunel’ Design Show 2008 in London. His key interests include sensor systems design and lateral flow assay based detection.
