Farzad is a practicing physician with specialty training in cardiovascular medicine, clinical and device development research, and Biodesign. He focusses his experiences to design innovative healthcare solutions as a Medical Specialist in the Design for Health group at IDEO Palo Alto.
Prior to IDEO, Farzad served as the St. Jude Medical and Dean's Fellow at Stanford University's Biodesign Program where he co-founded a surgical technology start-up. Farzad remains affiliated with the Stanford Biodesign program as an advisor to current fellows and a liaison to IDEO.
Farzad completed his Internal Medicine residency training at The Cleveland Clinic, followed by Cardiology fellowship at the joint Minneapolis program (Minneapolis VA Medical Center, Abbott Northwestern/ Minneapolis Heart Institute, Hennepin County Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and The University of Minnesota/ Lillehei Heart Institute). He served as Chief Cardiology Fellow and was awarded an NIH T32 post-doctoral research fellowship, inventing, modeling, and testing a novel implantable cardio-embolic particle deflector and a target-enhancing vascular access system. His most recent personal interests in healthcare are digital health technologies emphasizing prevention and early detection.
Farzad holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin (Phi Beta Kappa), and an MD from The University of Texas Medical Branch (Austin MS3-MS4).
Farzad is an avid music enthusiast, tennis player, and cyclist.
