Viral Gandhi is an engineer and entrepreneur who joins Stanford Biodesign with a multidisciplinary background in medical device R&D, business, and clinical operations. He spent the summer prior to joining Biodesign at Longitude Capital, a life sciences venture capital firm, where he conducted due diligence on medtech innovations. Prior to Longitude, Viral worked on the development of transcatheter aortic heart valve technology and managed the clinical operations of the PARTNER trials for Edwards Lifesciences. Additionally, Viral analyzed hundreds of contemporary medtech innovations as an equity research analyst on Wall Street and as an investigative healthcare journalist for the Financial Times Group. Viral holds a M.S.E. and B.S.E. in bioengineering and entrepreneurship from the University of Pennsylvania. His graduate research focused on bioresorbable drug-delivery implants - a technology now under development at Nupathe, Inc. At Penn, Viral co-founded a non-invasive glucose monitoring device, which was selected as a finalist in the Wharton Business Plan Competition. He grew up in Mumbai, India and spent a summer in China learning to fabricate orthotics for children with cerebral palsy.
