Frank T. Wang , PhD
Fellow
Stanford Biodesign Program
Stanford, CA
Frank is a web programmer and an embedded systems engineer dedicated to inventing enabling technologies to make breakthroughs in healthcare. He is currently leading the technical development of a healthcare IT platform for the completion and transmission of the Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) to improve quality of care at the end of life. This system is now in a pilot study at the Oregon Health & Sciences University. He has previously designed a biomedical instrument that detects early-stage pressure-induced tissue damage in frail patients. In bringing this product to the market, Frank was central in numerous key processes: he was involved with running a large-scale clinical trial to validate the efficacy of this instrument, worked closely with a contract manufacturer for large-scale manufacturing, and assisted in applying for FDA 510(K) Class II clearance. Frank has filed 7 patents, with 3 in the medical space. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UCLA.
