Shashi Ranjan , PhD

Fellow

Stanford Biodesign Program
Stanford, CA

Shashi started his technical career with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Biotechnology from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (Ranchi, India). Moving ahead to satiate his innovative instincts, he secured tenth rank in the prestigious Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) which allowed him to pursue his research at National University of Singapore where he completed his Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Biomedical Engineering. After Ph.D., he worked as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow for 3 years in the field of microfluidics, microfabrication and nanotechnology. In this course of time, he invented few novel technologies and employed it for enhancing his scientific understanding as well as for solving real-life clinical problems. He has authored various research publications in highly reputed peer-reviewed journals like Nature Communications and has got his techniques patented. Shashi always had an urge for developing efficient and easy-to-use solutions to clinical problems, and this led him to invent a shape-sensitive separation technique for infectious disease diagnosis in an attempt to replace the lengthy, age-old culture-based methods. Also, he has been working on the development of a hand-held device for counting blood cells. As a global fellow at Stanford Biodesign, Shashi aspires to develop high-quality Medtech products and services that can be affordable to people from all strata of society. He cherish to see his techniques, all set in action, and in service to mankind.
