Fletcher completed his Mechanical Engineering BS degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 2006. He then went on to earn a MS degree at Stanford University in Mechanical Engineering with a Biomechanical concentration in 2008.

At Stanford, Fletcher pursued a curriculum that consisted of various group-design related courses (e.g. ME310, ME374, ME382). Concurrently, he ventured into the medical device industry and completed a six-month R&D internship at Boston Scientific where he worked on next-generation endovascular aneurysm coils. More specifically, his work involved design brainstorming, DOE's, experimental analysis, CAD, and test fixture design and validation.

Nearing the end of his Master's program, Fletcher began working as a contract designer for InSite Medical Technologies, which transitioned into a year long full time position as the company's R&D engineer. The first phase of his work at Insite involved various rounds of live and deceased animal testing, physician feedback testing, and design iteration, which culminated with a formal design review and freeze. After this milestone, he worked on IP documentation as well as next generation product brainstorming and prototyping. In addition, Fletcher planned and executed a successful DV&V process in preparation for OUS human trials and FDA submission. Fletcher was happy to successfully reach these two final milestones prior to leaving Insite to begin the Biodesign Fellowship.

After getting a taste for the entrepreneurial medical device community, Fletcher is excited about the experience of the Biodesign Fellowship and gaining exposure to the medical community and the beginning phases of need and concept development.
