James Geriak is currently senior counsel at Dickstein Shapiro LLP. Mr. Geriak has been a principal patent attorney for many medical device companies such as Bentley Laboratories, Spectramed, Bioject, Cardiovascular Imaging Systems, General Surgical Innovations, Embol-X, Endotex, Cardiothoracic Systems, Vidamed and Boston Scientific. As lead counsel, he has successfully defended and enforced patent infringement for medical device companies in a number of patent litigations. He has also been lead counsel in numerous interferences in the United States Patent Office for determination of priority of inventorship with regard to patent applications filed by different inventors. Prior to Dickstein, Mr. Geriak has been a partner at the law firm Lyon & Lyon since 1961. Mr. Geriak has also served as a special master for the U.S. District Courts, an arbitrator, a mediator, and as a mini-trial judge in numerous patent actions. Additionally, he has been lead counsel in patent law suits for more than 50 companies that include Cadence Design Systems, Inc., Quantum, Corporation., Quickturn Design Systems, Inc., General Surgical Innovations, Inc., and Cannondale Corp. Mr. Geriak earned his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He earned his J.D., and graduated 3rd in his class, from Georgetown Law School. While in law school he was on the Editorial Staff of the Georgetown Law Journal and was a Patent Examiner at the US Patent Office.
