Jeffrey Parker is the Founder, Vision in Practice - - "Eye Care for All", and co-founder and Editorial Director, ILX Media Group, publisher of the Ophthalmology World Report (China and India editions). A native Californian, Parker worked in China in the 1990s as a journalist for UPI and Reuters and, since 2003, as a pioneering publisher. Both a chronicler of China's historic rise and a champion of its socioeconomic development, Mr. Parker offers a unique perspective on the opportunities opening up in China - and the challenges facing would-be participants. With a twin B.A. in Asian Studies and Geography from UC Santa Barbara and Master's training in Journalism from Columbia University, Mr. Parker covered a spectrum of political, economic and social stories from postings in Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. In his final two years at Reuters, he moved into media development, launching local-language multimedia news and video feeds in China, Japan, Korea, India and Southeast Asia. Since 2003, Mr. Parker has built a privately-owned family of world-class doctors magazines serving more than 50,000 specialists in China and India from the Shanghai base of ILX Media Group, where he is editorial director, chief operating officer, a corporate director and investor. His deep understanding of how health care is or often is not delivered to hundreds of millions of Chinese led to Parker's founding of Vision in Practice, a not-for-profit organization aiming to foster a transformation of Chinese medical practice by inspiring and enabling doctors to deliver high-quality, cost- effective services in rural and less-developed communities left behind by government health care.
