Robert Fisher, M.D., is a Maslah Saul MD Professor of Neurology and Director of the Stanford Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Prior to Stanford, he was an Assistant Professor of Neurology, Acting Director of the EEG lab, Co-Director of the Monitoring Unit, and an Associate Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Fisher went on to serve as the Director of the Epilepsy center and Chairman of Neurology at the Barrow Institute while simultaneously serving as a Neurology Professor at the University of Arizona. He came to Stanford as a Professor of Neurology in 2000. Dr. Fisher also served as the President of the American Epilepsy Society in 1999. Additionally, Dr. Fisher has served as President of the Epilepsy Society of Arizona; founding chair of the AES Public Education Committee and of the Research Committee; chair of the EFA Research Initiative Campaign, EFA Research Grants and Fellowships Committee, and the EFA Advocacy Committee; EFA Executive committee and as a member of the AES Research Awards Committee and AES Secretary for three years. Furthermore, he has won research awards from the Klingenstein Foundation, the Epilepsy Foundation of America and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Fisher's current research interests include clinical, laboratory and translational aspects of epilepsy research. Dr. Fisher has also participated in community outreach such as serving on the International League Against Epilepsy Board in Brussels Belgium. Dr. Fisher graduated with a B.S. degree in Biology from the California Institute of Technology and he later received his Ph.D. in Neurosciences from Stanford University. He went on to obtain his M.D. from the Stanford University School of Medicine in 1977.
