Robert Reiss was a recognized pioneer in the medical device industry and was widely considered the country's first bio-engineer. He built and founded three major companies and managed them through successful acquisitions: Imed acquired by Warner Lambert in 1982, ACS acquired by Eli Lilly in 1984 and Interventional Technologies acquired by Boston Scientific in 2001. Previously, he served as the COO of IMED a manufacturer of I.V. pumps. And later he served as CEO of ACS, innovating coronary angioplasty devices. Mr. Reiss was also Chairman, President, and CEO of Interventional Technologies, which invented products such as the guidewire and the Cutting Balloon. He is a Chinese linguist (US Army Language School 1961) and an avid around-the-world aviator. Mr. Reiss received numerous awards and honors for his work in the medical device and bioengineering sectors. He received his Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering from GMI in 1960 and his B.S. in Bioengineering from Columbia University in 1965. Mr. Reiss passed away on April 16th, 2005.
