Tony M. Chou, M.D., is a general partner at The Vertical Group, a medical technology venture capital firm. Dr. Chou has over 15 years of health care experience in interventional cardiology and in the medical device industry. Prior to The Vertical Group, Dr. Chou was employed by Abbott Vascular Division of Abbott Laboratories where he held positions in general management and business development. During his tenure at Abbott, Dr. Chou managed the IDE study, the PMA process, and the global launch of the StarClose femoral closure device. In addition, he was a member of the business development team that executed Abbott Vascular strategic transactions including the alliance with Medtronic covering drug eluting stent technology, and the acquisitions of Integrated VascularSystems, Mednova, the Jomed cardiovascular assets, and the Biocompatibles cardiovascular franchise. Previously, he was also Director of the Adult Cardiac Catheterization laboratory at the University of California, SanFrancisco (UCSF) where he remains Associate Professor of Medicine. Dr. Chou received his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University and a B.S. in Physics and Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
