Welcome to the Confucius Institute at Stanford
University. Under the directorship of Richard Saller, Vernon R. & Lysbeth Warren
Anderson Dean of the School of Humanities & Sciences, and administrated by the
Department of East Asia Languages and Cultures, the Confucius Institute at Stanford
University focuses on research and teaching on Chinese language and culture. The
Institute will soon house a reference library on China, and will present public
lectures and workshops open to the public.
Chinese has become the second most popular foreign language at Stanford
University. This is evidence of a growing interest among students in
Chinese language and culture. To encourage research on the graduate
level, each year we will award a fellowship to one to three graduate
students currently enrolled in our Chinese program. You can see a list
of the Confucius Institute Fellows here.
The Confucius Institute at Stanford University is a partnership between
Stanford, Peking
University, one of China’s top research universities, and Hanban, an
administrative arm of the Ministry of Education in China.
