The Fulbright Roving Scholar grant is a unique Fulbright opportunity in Norway for those who have experience and are interested in secondary education and have a keen interest in American Studies (history, geography, literature, cultural studies, etc.) The Roving Scholars are based in Oslo but spend up to 50% of their time traveling across all of Norway visiting secondary schools, giving training workshops, and participating in conferences. Roving scholars are primarily guest speakers, engaging secondary students in English on a variety of self-determined topics related to American Studies. A portion of their time is also spent offering workshops for teachers-in-service and teachers-in-training. The Fulbright grant includes a healthy stipend, on top of which all travel expenses, including a generous per diem, are paid for by the Roving Scholars program at the U.S.-Norway Fulbright Foundation. This unique Fulbright program is currently only available for U.S. Scholars to Norway.

The Award

Approximately 25,000 Norwegian kroner (NOK) per month for stays of 3-10 months for teaching, research, and teaching/research scholars. (The exchange rate on December 1, 2011 was U.S.$1=NOK 5.76.) An additional monthly allowance is provided for up to 3 dependents.

Fulbright Arctic Chair: Award provides 100,000 Norwegian kroner per month for a 6-7 month grant (the exchange rate on December 1, 2011 was $1=5.76 NOK). This sum will cover maintenance, housing and research-related expenses. Fulbright funding will be offered for a total maximum of 7 months, but grantee may stay beyond the 7-month Fulbright grant period. The grant period may be split in two, but no extra transatlantic travel funding will be provided. There is no additional financial support for dependents, but family members may accompany grantee to site.

Eligibility

The Fulbright Roving Scholar Grant is seeking applications from interested and qualified candidates, through the usual Fulbright process (deadline August 1 for the 2015-16 school year). Please note a Ph.D. is not required for this Fulbright grant. University faculty as well as field supervisors, adjuncts or lecturers, and experienced classroom teachers with masters degrees are encouraged to apply.
