The "OMICS" revolution and beyond.
The Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) Consortium is an international collaboration of research groups funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). The goal of ENCODE is to build a comprehensive parts list of functional elements in the human genome, including elements that act at the protein and RNA levels, and regulatory elements that control cells and circumstances in which a gene is active. ENCODE data are now available for the entire human genome.
The Hastings Center is an independent, nonpartisan, and nonprofit bioethics research institute founded in 1969. The Center's mission is to address fundamental ethical issues in the areas of health, medicine, and the environment as they affect individuals, communities, and societies.
The Stanford Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine (SCGPM) seeks to advance genomic technology so that someday both genetic and molecular profiling will become powerful and routine tools for predicting disease risk and monitoring and treating a wide range of pathologies.
