General GIS energy resources engineering
Includes GIS data sets that identify climate change research and risks in specific geographic areas throughout California.
The GCMD is a high quality resource for the discovery, access, and use of Earth science data and data-related services worldwide, while specifically promoting the discovery and use of NASA data. The directory resource is targeted to serve as a valued location for sharing data from multinational sources. The GCMD contains marine datasets relating to fisheries, aquaculture, bathymetry, coastal processes, geology, volcanology, ocean chemistry, ocean circulation, physical ocean properties (temp, salinity, pressure), as well as water quality.
The NCDC is one of three submodules of NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) with a focus on climate data. The NCDC provides access to global and U.S. environmental data from satellites and other sources including climate monitoring data at a range of temporal and spatial scales, records of extreme weather events (including storms and freeze/frost events), and a rainfall frequency atlas. The section ‘climate data online’ on the left of this page links to an online data viewer that can be customized to display/search all the NCDC’s marine datasets.
The NGDC is another of NOAA’s NESDIS data centers. The National Geophysical Data Center provides scientific stewardship, products and services for sea floor and lake bed data, including geophysics (gravity, magnetics, seismic reflection, bathymetry) and marine geology (ocean drilling data, well logs, crustal ages, indexed geologic samples). All the data on this site is searchable, and geophysical, marine geological, and bathymetric data can be viewed in separate online data viewers.
Oil and Gas GIS sets
(Formerly known as USGS Geo-Data Explorer)Datasets include USGS world and national oil and gas assessments, international and national coal assessments, and petroleum assessment data for the North Slope of Alaska, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska.
Lists (shapefile) spatial data for use in a geographic information system with a focus on Western states. Compiled by the University of Colorado Natural Resources Law Center.
Renewable Energy GIS sets
Open Energy Information (OpenEI) is a knowledge sharing online community dedicated to connecting people with the latest energy information and data.
GIS data about wind energy by the DOE's Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Solar and Wind Energy Resource Assessment(SWERA) provides easy access to credible renewable energy data to stimulate investment in and development of renewable energy technologies.
Provides dynamic maps and GIS data of renewable energy resources, particularly in the areas of Biomass, Geothermal, Hydrogen, Solar, and Wind
