Conference will explore integrated manufacturing

STANFORD -- "Integrated Manufacturing: Breaking Down the Walls" is the theme of a Stanford University conference open to the public Friday and Saturday, May 1-2.

The session is the biennial conference of the Stanford Graduate School of Business' Manufacturing Club and the Stanford Engineering Club for Automation and Manufacturing.

Firms are discovering that manufacturing can be a strategic weapon when integrated with other functional areas, such as marketing, engineering and human resources. The conference will offer seminars and discussions with leaders of corporations that have achieved competitive success by putting integrated manufacturing to work.

The keynote addresses will be delivered by Ken Iverson, chief executive officer of Nucor, and Steven Wheelwright, professor of manufacturing at the Harvard Business School.

More than 20 seminars will be conducted by experts from industry and academia, including Daniel J. Meyer, CEO of Cincinnati Milacron Inc.; Dr. Winston Chen, CEO of Solectron; Craig Barrett, executive vice president, Intel Corp.; Makoto Komoto, president, Nippon Otis Elevator; Mark E. Chestnut, vice president, Cummins Engine Co. Inc.; Scott McNealy, CEO, Sun Microsystems; and Toshikata Amino, executive vice president, Honda of America Manufacturing Inc.
