SmartWay gives carriers a competitive edge by providing tools that enable our partners to analyze their environmental performance, fuel use, and improve efficiency.  SmartWay carriers can use this performance data several ways, including:

Partner Categories and Eligibility

SmartWay has room for just about everyone, and includes multiple key Partner types that cover the range of freight shipping activities and stakeholders. These include all retailers, manufacturers, distributors, cargo owners and other shippers, as well as private fleets, commercial carriers, and 3rd party logistics providers. Each partner plays an important role in the partnership process and benefits from their participation and commitments.

The tool contains guidance on each page to help you submit your tool, including screen demos and definitions. We've also provided user guides and worksheets below for added support.

To register as a SmartWay Truck Carrier:

  1. Download the current year's tool and the associated guidance documents and worksheets (as needed).
  2. Complete your tool submission.
  3. Email your tool's "xml" file to smartway_transport@epa.gov.

Use the "SmartWay Partner Tool Kit for Air Carriers" to complete your tool submission

Step 3: Wait for confirmation of your partnership status.

Once your tool is evaluated and approved, a SmartWay Partner Account Manager will notify you via e-mail. You will be provided with a registration number and your company will be listed as a partner on the SmartWay website.
