Stanford Sailing Program Brief Description:
Thank you very much for your interest in Stanford Sailing's Vessel Donation Program. The Stanford Sailing Program has existed at Stanford for well over fifty years. Approximately 30 students are Varsity Athletes on the Stanford Intercollegiate Sailing Team, which competes at the national level in both coed and women's sailing.
Our instructional program is open to all Stanford students, and each year, over 700 take one or more of our courses in sailing or windsurfing. The program also offers recreational opportunities for students, faculty and staff, and members of the Stanford community who join the Stanford Sailing Association.
New in 1998, our High School Sailing and Summer Camp programs offer race training and learn-to-sail classes to over 75 local youths each. Many of these young sailors complete our classes at no cost, as part of our at-risk youth scholarship program.
Boat Donation Program:
As a tax-exempt organization, Stanford accepts the donation of vessels that can benefit and/or augment it's sailing program. Most vessels are put to work in one of the above programs. If your vessel passed on to another sailor in the future, Stanford Sailing receives 100% of the proceeds and puts them to use on one of excellent programs.
Vessel donations to the Stanford Sailing Program fall into one of the three following catagories:
- Boats valued under $20,000 which will be used in the competitive or instructional programs.
- Boats valued over $20,000 which will be used in the competitive or instructional programs, AND all boats that will be used in the recreational program.
- Boats of any value that will not be used actively by the sailing program.
These catagories delineate differing levels of approval within the University and differing standards by which the Sailing Program evaluates the acceptance of a vessel.
The Vessel Donation Program has been streamlined in order to give our donors every assurance that their donation will be handled thoroughly and professionally. I have also included a checklist outlining the steps of a typical boat donation. Of course these steps may vary slightly for your particular situation. We have set up the donation process so that we at Stanford take care of every possible detail of which we are able.
Thank you again for your interest in the Stanford Sailing Program.
