STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford lightweight rowing team took home Crew and Coach of the Year honors from the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Board of Stewards.

Head coach Derek Byrnes, in his first year running the program, was tabbed the Lightweight Coach of the Year after leading the Cardinal to its fifth national title in six years. He led both the eight and four to national titles, making Stanford the first team to win both events at the IRA National Championships.

The varsity eight was honored as the Women’s Lightweight Crew of the Year. The boat went undefeated in 11 races during the spring, culminating in a national title. It was the fifth title in six years for the Stanford varsity eight.

Other IRA honorees included the Washington heavyweights and Cornell men’s lightweights earning Crew of the Year. The Huskies’ head coach Michael Callahan and Big Red head coach Chris Kerber were selected as Coaches of the Year.
