Season Results
STANFORD, Calif. - In its third season as a varsity sport, the Stanford sand volleyball team turned in an 11-4 overall record, including an 8-2 record at home.
The Cardinal hosted the NorCal Invitational, March 6-8, marking the opening of its new facility. The Stanford Sand Volleyball Stadium has four courts approximately 75-yards long. Grass berms were put in place for seating and is outlined with 10 palm trees over 100 years old to give it a 'beach' feeling.
After a 2-2 trip to Miami, the Cardinal went 2-1 in the Stanford Invitational, posting it's first program wins over Oregon and Cal Poly. Stanford wrapped-up the year on a five-match winning streak. It's final two matches were won 3-2 against Santa Clara and at California.
Playing in the team's No. 1 spot all season long were senior Lauren Birks and junior Brittany Howard. The duo went 13-7 overall and reached the semifinals of the NorCal Invitational (March 8).
Junior Madi Bugg and redshirt freshman Ivana Vanjak made up the Cardinal's No. 2 pair, finishing 13-5 overall. Junior Jordan Burgess and redshirt freshman Merete Lutz went 11-4 in the No. 3 spot, reaching the finals of the Stanford Invitational (April 12).
