STANFORD, Calif. – Junior Jackson Kimbell scored 19 seconds into Stanford men’s water polo’s game against Santa Clara and the Cardinal never looked back en route to an 18-0 victory over the Broncos Saturday morning to open play in the Kap7 NorCal Invitational at Avery Aquatic Center.
Six Stanford players had two goals to guide a balanced Cardinal attack. Senior BJ Churnside, redshirt junior Adam Warmoth, junior Reid Chase, redshirt sophomores Justin Roberto and Sam Pfeil, and redshirt freshman Harrison Enright each recorded a pair of goals for the Cardinal.
Senior Bret Bonanni, juniors Jackson Kimbell and Connor Stapleton, redshirt junior Griffin Bolan and redshirt freshmen Mitchell Mendoza and Grant Sivesind rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece.
Sophomore Oliver Lewis played the whole game in the cage for Stanford, posting his first career shutout.
Stanford, the No. 3 seed, will face sixth-seeded Long Beach State (an 11-6 winner over UC San Diego) this evening at 6:15 p.m. PT as the Cardinal looks to continue to advance in the two-day tournament.
