FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Stanford opened up the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Thursday, which saw Tom Fawcett and David Wilczynski roll past the round of 32 in singles and face-off against Notre Dame’s Alex Lawson and Quentin Monaghan in doubles play.
First up, Fawcett and Wilczynski stepped up for doubles action on the day where they entered the round of 16, taking on the Fighting Irish’s Alex Lawson and Quentin Monaghan, who scrapped to a 6-2, 6-3 win over the Cardinal duo.
In singles, the Cardinal was dominant on the day as Tom Fawcett faced ND’s Monaghan again, this time taking the straight sets win 6-2-, 6-4. Teammate David Wilczynski fell 3-6 in the first set to Shawn Hadavi of Columbia before rallying back to top the Lion in the next two sets 6-3, 6-2
The round of 16 in singles continues Friday for Fawcett and Wilcynski as well as doubles consolation matches.
