Day Two of National Indoors

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Day two of the USTA/ITA National Indoors saw Tom Fawcett collect a huge upset over the No. 2 seed Cameron Norrie of TCU 6-4, 7-6 (8) to advance to the quarterfinals, before a tough match against Chris Eubanks of Georgia Tech saw the Cardinal run end 6-3, 7-5.

Opening up the day in the round of 16, Fawcett stepped up first to take on the second-seeded Cameron Norrie of TCU on the day. Fawcett came out strong to take a 6-4 win in the first set, before Norrie scrapped back in the second set to force a tiebreak. In the end, the Cardinal was too much for Norrie as Fawcett won the second set 7-6 (8) to advance to the quarterfinals.

Next up, Fawcett took on Georgia Tech’s Chris Eubanks in a match that saw the Yellow Jacket come out of the gate hard to take a 6-3 win in the first set. While Fawcett composed himself more in the second set, Eubanks powered through to take the second set 7-5 to advance to the semifinals.

In doubles consolation action, Tom Fawcett and David Wilczynski paired up against to take on Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe of Oklahoma State. Cardinal were unable to crack the Cowboys though as OK State took the win 6-4, 6-2.

Consolation play rolls on Sunday for the Cardinal in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
