Research Statement

Sharique Hasan studies social networks, work and entrepreneurship. His research on social networks has explored how networks help people learn complex ideas, what types of network connections enhance performance, and how individuals can build larger and more diverse networks. Sharique's research on work has explored how specialized experience translates into rapid career advancement and how the internal configuration of organizations shapes the dynamics of jobs inside them. In his latest research, Sharique co-founded a startup bootcamp in India called Innovate Delhi where aspiring Indian entrepreneurs learn design thinking and venture design. Using data from Innovate Delhi (http://www.innovatedelhi.com) he and his collaborators are exploring how the networks of entrepreneurs enhance learning, idea generation, the vetting and selection of co-founders, and team performance.

Teaching Statement

Professor Hasan teaches classes on managing social networks and data and decisions to MBA and MS students. He also teaches a doctoral course on designing social networks research.

Bio

Sharique Hasan is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.  Professor Hasan received his BS in Computer Science and Philosophy from Rutgers College in New Jersey, an MS in Public Policy and Management and his PhD in Organizational Theory and Management from Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College. His doctoral dissertation, “Social Networks, Stratification and Careers in Organizations” won the Herbert A. Simon Doctoral Dissertation Award in the Administrative Sciences from Carnegie Mellon University. His research has been published or is forthcoming in Organization Science, Management Science, the American Sociological Review,  and Administrative Science Quarterly.
