Current TopicsSan Francisco to Host First Free Electric-Vehicle Test Drive Event“Experience Electric” at Marina Green, Saturday, May 17, 2014May 13, 2014 The event will feature state-of-the-art EVs from such manufacturers as BMW, FIAT, Ford, General Motors and Nissan. Test drives are available to licensed drivers on a first-come, first-served basis, with free tacos available to those taking test drives. Sponsored by MTC in partnership with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and a consortium of EV organizations, the Experience Electric – The Better Ride campaign aims to raise the awareness of Bay Area residents about EVs as a reliable and cost-effective alternative through ride-and-drive events in a casual environment free of sales hype. Accelerating EV use is a key regional strategy for reducing emissions from gas-powered vehicles, improving air quality, and achieving local and state targets for curbing greenhouse emissions. The May 17 ride-and-drive opportunity is the first of some 20 events featuring plug-in electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (aka PEVs) in communities throughout the Bay Area’s nine counties, at workplaces, urban centers and local neighborhoods. At the events, visitors can chat with EV experts to learn about available models, home charging, rebates, tax incentives and more.
