Stanford Family Adventures

Exploring. Together.

These trips allow Stanford alumni to experience new countries and cultures with their children or grandchildren (or both!). Young Explorers enjoy one-of-a-kind educational projects and fun hands-on activities; adults gain insight from expert Stanford faculty at lectures.

For the kids For the older kids

Kids love our Young Explorer Program—no grown-ups allowed! Young Explorers participate in awesome activities that allow them to channel their energy, challenge their minds and show off their creativity. Most tours are for the whole family, but young travelers also enjoy occasional kids-only adventures, tours or meals.

Our Young Explorer Leaders are all recent Stanford grads and former Stanford Sierra Camp counselors who love hanging out with families and are experts at adapting to the personalities and interests of each Young Explorer. Young Explorers activities take place while adults are attending faculty lectures. Young Explorers are grouped by age, and there are never more than 10 kids per Young Explorer leader.

Highlights from past trips include writing to a pen pal in Beijing (and meeting that pen pal in person!) and running a race in the original Olympic stadium.

Kids flown the coop? That doesn't have to mean an end to family vacations! Our Family Seminar programs are developed specifically for families traveling with kids who are high school graduates or older. These programs offer a unique balance of touring, family time, educational opportunities and access to Stanford faculty; they're perfect for families with grown children and a shared interest in learning about the world.

Young adults enjoy the camaraderie of traveling with their peers, and families have the opportunity to explore and learn together.

Highlights include activities and Stanford faculty lectures that are enriching for both young and older adults.

For the adults For the whole family

Adult travelers have the opportunity to forge friendships with a diverse group of intellectually curious families. Travelers also interact with and hear lectures from Stanford faculty—expert scholars who bring our destinations to life—while their kids are engaged in fun activities in their Young Explorer groups.

Parents and grandparents watch their kids explore a new place for the first time and enjoy occasional adult-only events, such as sampling local wines or in-depth museum explorations.

Highlights include special access to the best local guides and behind-the-scenes experiences that regular tourists never get to enjoy.

In case you thought the kids get to have all the fun on our programs, think again. After swapping stories of the day's tours, families are invited to get their "Bingo!" on during game night or face off against other clans in the Stanford Family Olympics. Make sure to bring your togas and your blue-footed boobie impressions—you'll have ample opportunity to put them to use!

Stanford Family Adventures are appropriate for active, curious travelers of all ages—from 6 to 70+!
