The Stanford Center for Internet and Society seeks scholars and practitioners interested in a formal affiliation with the Center for the 2014-2016 academic years. There are four categories of affiliation:

Affiliate Scholar: CIS will select one or more professors in law, computer science, communications, economics, or a related field for formal affiliation with the Center for a period of two years.

Affiliate Junior Scholar: CIS will select one or more promising PhD candidates or post docs working on issues of technology law or policy for formal affiliation with the Center for a period of at least one year.

Non-Residential Fellow: CIS will select one or more practitioners with a focus on technology law or policy for formal affiliation with CIS for a period of two years.

Student Fellow: CIS may select students who's project focuses on CIS related topics for a formal affiliation with CIS for a period of at least one year.

Applications are due no later than Thursday, July 31, 2014.
We will announce the 2014-2016 CIS Affiliates in September/October.

• Interested applicants should provide a resume or CV and a statement of interest not to exceed 750 words. We prefer PDF attachments. Email your application to cis@law.stanford.edu.

• Applicants must propose a specific project integral to the Center's mission and activities. Areas of interest include net neutrality, regulation of broadband networks, cybersecurity, future of media, free speech, copyright, intermediary liability, privacy, government surveillance, and robotics. The proposal should include specific output, criteria for success, and a timeline of at most two years.

• Affiliates and fellows will be selected on the basis of relevant expertise and a demonstrated commitment to the Center's mission—namely, studying and preserving the conditions for free speech, privacy, innovation, autonomy, and other core values in the context of technological progress. We will place particular emphasis on research or other activities that result in practical advances in technology law or policy.

• Affiliates and fellows will receive access to certain CIS resources. Fellowships and affiliations will remain unpaid and can be ended at any time at the discretion of either CIS or the fellow or affiliate.
