New Faculty Orientation

New faculty members of the professoriate at Stanford typically attend several required orientations in their transition to Stanford:

1. Benefits orientation through University Human Resources (UHR) within 30 days of the appointment start date. 

2. University New Faculty Orientation (NFO).  The 2015 Fall Orientation will be held on September 9, 2015, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with reception following. New assistant, associate and full professors RVSP by sending an email to facultydevelopment@stanford.edu. 

3. Meetings in their departments with relevant staff to get oriented to department and school-specific processes.

4. For those who will be Principal Investigators at Stanford, a meeting with the staff in the Office of the Dean of Research is important to cover major policy and compliance matters related to sponsored-research.

Tomorrow's Professor Newsletter

Tomorrow's Professor eNewlsetter provides "Desk-top Faculty Development, One Hundred Times A Year" through email postings of key topics related to the everyday life of a college or university professor.  The newsletter was published in a book, currently in its second edition, with the same title. The mailing list is hosted through Stanford's Center for Teaching and Learning and currently has over 49,000 subscribers at over 700 institutions and organizations in over 100 countries around the world.  Topics discussed included the academe, students, postdocs, careers, teaching, learning, research, administration, leadership and worklife balance. Faculty members are encouraged to subscribe.  The Tomorrow's Professor archives and more information about the newsletter are available online.
