Newport Autumn Rowing Festival Results

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Stanford's men's eight raced in the Newport Fall Regatta in Newport Harbor Sunday, finishing third behind California A and The Little Knights A.

California crossed the line with a winning time of 14:31, while the Cardinal finished 23 seconds back of the Golden Bears. Stanford's B entry took 10th with a time of 15:48.

In the fours competition, Stanford entered three boats, with the A finishing fifth (16:50), the B sixth (17:22) and the C 12th (18:49).

"This is our five-week exam on fall training and work," said Stanford men's rowing head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "There are some bright spots and some areas of needed expansion. It would have been nice to be closer to the top Cal eight, but we did defeat the rest of the Bear armada."

Stanford finishes up the fall season next weekend at the Head of the Lagoon in Forster City, Calif.
