STANFORD, Calif. -
Stanford rower Austin Hack was named the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year while Peter Leemputte joined Hack on the All-Pac-12 Team, the conference announced Thursday.
The announcement marked the first All-Pac-12 nods for both Hack and Leemputte.
Hack and Leemputte are members of Stanford's I Eight which is ranked ninth in the country heading into the IRA Championships, set to be held June 1-2 in Cherry Hills, N.J.
The I Eight captured the bronze medal at the Pac-12 Championships May 13 at Lake Natoma.
Hack, who rowed in the No. 7 seat for the Cardinal I Eight, was a member of the U.S. men's eight that captured gold at the 2011 Under-23 World Championships last summer.
Leemputte, meanwhile, is a multi-year member of the I Eight, having helped the boat to an eighth-place national finish at the IRA Championships last year.
This season, in addition to the bronze medal effort at the Pac-12 Championships, Leemputte and Hack helped the I Eight to victory over Oregon State and came within two-tenths of a second of upsetting then-No. 4 Wisconsin on April 15.
