STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford dropped the series opener against Oregon State 15-1 in five innings Friday night at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium.

The Cardinal (12-15, 0-4 Pac-12) surrendered a season-high 15 runs as the Beavers' (22-9-1, 2-5 Pac-12) offense got hot early and never let up.

Carolyn Lee (6-9) got the start in the circle for Stanford and lasted 2.0 innings, allowing nine runs on six hits and four walks with one strikeout. Kaitlyn Lagattuta came in as relief in the third inning and limited the Beavers to six runs – two earned – on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work.

The Cardinal battled through defensive troubles, making a season-worst four errors.

Kylie Sorenson and Victoria Molina registered Stanford's two hits.

Jessica Plaza provided the defensive highlight of the game early, delivering the first out of the game by throwing out Oregon State's leadoff batter trying to steal second. It's the third runner Plaza has thrown out this year.

Sorenson led off the bottom half of the inning with a single and moved to second when Kayla Bonstrom followed with a walk. Plaza hit a grounder to third that the third baseman could not handle and the ball rolled into left field, allowing Sorenson to score and give Stanford an early 1-0 lead.

That would be all the Cardinal would get, however, as Oregon State starting pitcher Bev Miller (10-5) proceeded to allow one hit over the next 4.0 innings, racking up eight strikeouts in that span.

The lead did not last long with Oregon State erupting for a six-run rally in the top of the second to take a 6-1 lead. The Beavers did not let up, loading the bases to start the top of the third inning and adding five runs to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

Oregon State tacked on two additional runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make its lead 15-1 and secure the run rule victory.

Stanford looks to get a series split Saturday at 6 p.m. (PT) when it takes on Oregon State in game two of the series.
