About

Tsai and Knutson suggest that the way people decide who to trust varies by culture. European Americans generally trust individuals who appear excited and enthusiastic while East Asians generally trust individuals appearing calm and relaxed. They will test these predictions behaviorally by using fMRIs. By studying trust and mistrust among different ethnic groups in the United States, they hope to use their research to improve cross-cultural communication.
