Cognitive Aging and Alzheimer's Disease

Victor Henderson,  MD, MS
Professor of Health Research & Policy, and Neurology & Neurological Sciences, Director of Stanford Alzheimer's Disease Research Center

Stanford University

Abstract

Cognitive decline that accompanies “usual” or “normal” aging differs from impairment that can be attributed to changes of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. A number of strategies are proposed to ameliorate cognitive aging. This presentation will review evidence on strategies that an individual might undertake during middle or older age, as well as provide an overview of the new NIH Stanford Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.

The workshop provides an understanding of important distinction between cognitive aging and Alzheimer's disease, an opportunity to learn which activities might improve congnitive aging and which activities might not, and a workshop to expand knowledge about the new Stanford Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
