Molecular Genetic and Genomic Testing at Stanford Medicine
As part of a joint initiative between SHC and LPCH to lay
strong foundations for the unfolding Era of Genomic Medicine, a
consult service for genetic and genomic test review is being developed
by both hospitals. The service currently includes a genetic
counselor, a molecular pathologist, and a medical geneticist, and will
primarily provide consultation for the selection and processing of
genetic and genomic tests. In order to achieve this goal, the service
will work together with the different departments and services at LPCH
and SHC to create guidelines and protocols for testing. While this
service is being developed, collegial phone calls may occur to discuss
the rationale for the selection of certain genetic tests and to make
suggestions in some instances. The ultimate goal is to continue
providing outstanding and cutting-edge care for our patients in the
Era of Genomic Medicine. More information on this service will follow
as it is developed. For questions or to access the service prior to
ordering genetic and genomic testing, you may contact: Linbo Yu,
genetic counselor, at LYu@stanfordhealthcare.org or 650-736-6926.
