MEC
formally opposes Proposition 46 (aka MICRA Reform) (PDF)
California healthcare costs will significantly
increase with new MICRA proposition. The Medical Staff Executive
Committees of the Stanford Hospital and Clinics and the Lucile Packard
Children's Hospital (the "MECs"), representing the over 2500
physicians who care for patients at these hospitals and clinics,
formally oppose Proposition 46 dealing with patient drug checks,
physician screening and medical malpractice lawsuits. The MECs believe
that this initiative will compromise patient privacy, limit access to
needed healthcare services, increase healthcare costs, foster baseless
lawsuits, and create significant inefficiencies. Click here to
read the joint statement of SHC and LPCH Medical Staff Executive Committees.

Safety Alert! EPIC Medication Ordering Dose/Concentration Safety Issue (PDF)
Learn a lesson from your colleagues. Physicians
have told us that there is a potential for a serious medication error,
if the doctor does not select proper dose or concentration option. It
has been reported that some individuals select the first choice that
pops up on the medication and did not realize that there are different
options. Click here for more.

NEW Remote Access Application: "Duo" Will Replace RSA
SHC now offers an improved remote access platform
called Duo. If you have remote access using RSA,
you must transition by November 30th, 2014. Duo is already in
use for both the University and Stanford Children's Health, and it is
easy to use via smartphone app, SMS text, or landline. See how it
works: Video
Action (less than 5 minutes): Register for Duo by clicking "USE DUO" on the remote access portal. Register at least 2 devices so you always have a backup.
Outdated Pended/Shared Notes will be Deleted
In our continuing efforts to ensure data integrity
within the Epic EMR we have identified a large number of incomplete
pended/shared notes on Inpatient admissions. These notes are
not a part of the legal medical record. Starting 11/15/14, all
incomplete notes older than 90-days from discharge will be deleted.
Please contact Bernice Zander, Director of EHR Integrity and HIMS
Operations, bzander@stanfordhealthcare.org,
with any questions or concerns.
