Academic Chats: MOOCS and Their Implications for Beginning Faculty

Tuesday, February 10, 2015 -
12:00pm to 1:30pm
Hartley Conference Center, Mitchell Earth Sciences Building

Registration deadline: Friday, Feb. 6, 2015

Three years ago MOOCS were all the rage with the prediction that they would soon fundamentally change higher education.  While this hasn't happened yet, and isn't likely to anytime soon, they do have an important role to play in certain institutions and situations and understanding how they work is important to beginning faculty.  This topic will be discussed with two professional guests who have taught MOOCS at Stanford.

Academic Chats are monthly lunch-time discussion groups for graduate students who are considering a career as a faculty member. Chats are an opportunity to learn from and share experiences with others who are preparing for or launching their career as a professor.

Offered throughout the academic year, each Academic Chat focuses on a specific topic and features guest speakers from Stanford and local colleges.
