Overview

The mission of BJA is to provide policy leadership and assistance that supports criminal justice systems in the effort to achieve safer communities. Established in 2008, the BJA National Training and Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC) promotes that mission by serving as a major source of justice-related training and technical assistance (TTA) information and resources to improve criminal justice systems nationwide. BJA NTTAC offers specialized assistance to the criminal justice field by providing state, local, and tribal communities with rapid, expert, coordinated, and data-driven training and technical assistance.

BJA NTTAC Web Site

Explore BJA NTTAC's web site at www.BJATraining.org to learn more about new information and tools available to criminal justice professionals to assist them in improving the nation’s state, local, and tribal criminal justice systems. BJA NTTAC is dedicated to facilitating the provision of consistent, effective TTA services that achieve meaningful criminal justice outcomes.

Be sure to visit the BJA NTTAC web site regularly for news, resources, and information on TTA trainings, resources, and engagements. In the TTA Spotlight section on the site, BJA NTTAC highlights TTA engagements that have demonstrated success in achieving meaningful impact in the criminal justice system. BJA NTTAC also publishes an official blog, TTA Today, which shares regular information on new TTA initiatives, resources, and issues impacting the criminal justice field.

Request TTA Services

One of the features of the BJA NTTAC site is the automated TTA request application, which allows you to easily request assistance online. In order to address the unique needs of each requestor, the TTA services provided through BJA NTTAC cover a broad set of topic areas including adjudication, corrections, counter-terrorism, crime prevention, justice information-sharing, law enforcement, mental health, substance abuse, tribal justice, and capacity-building. Across these topic areas, BJA NTTAC supports TTA at various levels of time and resource-intensiveness including:

  • Assistance implementing evidence-based programs.
  • Assistance with strategic planning.
  • Curriculum development.
  • Customized technical assistance from subject matter experts.
  • Data analysis.
  • Facilitation of advisory group meetings.
  • Fostering relationships with research partners.
  • Onsite and distance learning training.
  • Peer-to-peer visits.
  • Research and information requests.

TTA Reporting Portal

In 2014, BJA NTTAC launched the BJA TTA Reporting Portal which has replaced the old system. The TTA Reporting Portal includes several reporting capabilities that enhance the way BJA and its TTA providers capture, track, and report on TTA activities. The system enables users to obtain a comprehensive, real-time awareness of TTA activities. BJA staff will be using this system to access information about TTA engagements across providers, which will support many of their work activities.
Additional features include the ability to:

  • Record and retain standardized information about TTA activities to support calls for information, grant management, and reporting requirements;
  • Inform BJA TTA providers about others’ TTA activities to promote collaboration and information-sharing;
  • Provide an inventory of TTA resources to facilitate broader use and adoption of federally funded deliverables across TTA providers and recipients; and
  • Capture key performance metrics and outputs of TTA activities.

TTA Collaboration Portal

One goal of BJA NTTAC is to provide the resources and tools necessary to foster collaboration and ensure that criminal justice professionals are better able serve their communities. The TTA Collaboration Portal, also launched in 2014, allows BJA providers to view up-to-date information on TTA activity trends, search directories to identify relevant BJA criminal justice partners, and utilize a geographic information system to visually see the distribution of TTA activity across the United States. Within the system, TTA providers who support similar policy areas will also be able to interact with one another through various interest groups and communities of interest.

BJA TTA Provider Directory

Additionally, BJA NTTAC developed the BJA TTA Provider Directory, an easy-to-use, downloadable guide containing a comprehensive list of approximately 100 BJA TTA providers. The BJA TTA Provider Directory is designed to be a quick reference guide for BJA staff, TTA providers, and practitioners in the field on key information about BJA providers that can be shared and accessed electronically. The provider information includes a description of the organization, its criminal justice program areas, and current BJA-funded projects. Being able to easily access this information will allow for enhanced collaboration among criminal justice organizations and BJA staff.
