Highway 101 Bridge Construction Update Sept. 8 – 25, 2015

Here's a project schedule for Sept. 8 – 25, 2015 for the Highway 101 Bridge Construction: September 8 – September 11 Monday-Friday (Day work) (southbound Highway 101, behind the K-rail) Pile driving for south bridge abutment Form and install reinforcing steel for bridge piers and north abutment.
September 14 - 18 Monday-Friday (Day work) (southbound Highway 101, behind the K-rail) Form, reinforce, and pour concrete for south abutment Pour concrete for bridge piers and north abutment Start erection of falsework for bridge deck
September 21 - 25 Monday-Friday (Day work) (southbound Highway 101, behind the K-rail) Complete erection of falsework for bridge deck Form and install reinforcing steel for bridge railing
Sections of the existing sound wall north and south of the bridge (50' to the north and 100' to the south) have been demolished as part of the work, and the resulting gaps in the sound wall will not be closed until the new replacement sound walls are constructed in late September or early October. Residents may hear increased freeway noise until the new sound walls are constructed.
Pile driving for the bridge foundation is expected to be the loudest construction activity to-date and will produce noticeable ground vibration and noise. The vibration will be partially mitigated by the installation of temporary shields surrounding the piles as they are driven into place.
Residents may notice increased noise from demolition equipment and mandatory backup alarms while the contractor is working in the construction zone.
There is no work scheduled on mainline Highway 101 that will require lane closures during the evening hours. There will be some occasional traffic flagging on West Bayshore Road for miscellaneous activities, however Caltrans does not anticipate any significant local street traffic delays.
