Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for County of Santa Clara Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fueling Station

WHAT:
The County of Santa Clara Facilities and Fleet Department (FAF) and Trillium CNG of Chicago, IL (NYSE: WEC) have jointly commissioned a new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station at the County's Fleet Maintenance Facility, 2265 Junction Avenue, San Jose, California. The location is near Interstate 880 and Highway 101 and the San Jose Airport.

The new CNG station will provide fuel for the county vehicles that are used by the County of Santa Clara. The new station will also be a commercial venture as it will be open to any CNG-fueled vehicle. The station will operate much like a gasoline fueling station, but will use the alternate fuel of compressed natural gas.

WHO:
Supervisor Dave Cortese, President, County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors
Jeffrey V. Smith, County Executive, County of Santa Clara
Val Gueorguiev, Commercial Program Manager, Trillium CNG
Sheriff Laurie Smith, County of Santa Clara Sheriff

WHEN:
Thursday, October 8, 11:00 a.m.

WHERE:
County of Santa Clara Fleet Maintenance Facility
2265 Junction Avenue, San Jose, CA 95131

WHY:
The County of Santa Clara established a set of aggressive goals for greenhouse gas emissions reductions that would reduce the government’s greenhouse gas emission by 80% before 2050 to reduce its carbon footprint.  This CNG fueling station will help the County to achieve at least 25 percent of its fleet as alternative fuel vehicles, saving at least $1.25 per gasoline gallon equivalent.  The County expects to save a minimum of $7,500 per year in fuel costs within the first year of operation.
