This week, the President traveled to Michigan and Arizona to preview new policy initiatives from his upcoming State of the Union address on January 20. His actions will focus on helping middle-class families buy a home and land solid, good-paying jobs. That's January 2 to January 8 or, "SOTU Spoiler Alert!"

Tuesday

  • On Tuesday, the President hosted Mexican President Peña Nieto for a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office.
  • Later, the President held a meeting with the National Governors Association. The bipartisan meeting included NGA Chairman Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., NGA Vice Chair Gov. Gary Herbert, R-Utah, Gov. Mark Dayton, D-Minn., and Gov. Pat McCrory, R-N.C.
  • Meanwhile, the Vice President -- who served as a senator himself for more than 30 years -- presided over the ceremonial swearing-in of the 114th Congress.

Wednesday

  • On Wednesday, the President addressed the terrorist attacks in Paris, France.
  • He traveled to the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan to highlight the resurgent American automotive and manufacturing sector.
  • The President unveiled his proposal to make community college free for responsible students.
