Superfund Site Profile
The Nelson Tunnel/Commodore Waste Rock Pile site is located about one mile north of Creede, Colorado. The abandoned hard rock mine site consists of an adit that drains directly into West Willow Creek and a large, formerly unstable waste rock pile that is part of the Commodore Mine. Mine drainage has contaminated surface water with heavy metals. EPA completed the sites remedial investigation in 2011, which assessed the nature and extent of contamination. The sites feasibility study is underway. The study will explore appropriate cleanup options.
