If you are not currently directing or evaluating the work of other employees (including supervising part-time, temp, casual or student employees), ask your Human Resources Office or Faculty Affairs Officer or Administrator to confirm that fact with the Sexual Harassment Policy Office: shpo-training@stanford.edu or 725-0646.
All Stanford faculty and supervisory staff are required to train in the odd-numbered years. If you became a supervisor at Stanford in 2014, you needed to complete training within 6 months to comply with state law. Unfortunately that does not exempt you from the university-wide training requirement in 2015. However, after 2015 you will be on the two-year repeat cycle and will not have to train again until 2017.
You do not need to train while you are on a sabbatical or other type of leave. The SHPO should learn about your leave from your tracking manager, but you may also let us know. After you return to work, you must complete the training within 3 months. You will receive an email with registration information.
Emeritus faculty must complete AB 1825 training if they are recalled to active duty, even if they work less than full time.
Faculty and supervisors will not receive credit at Stanford for a comparable course completed for another employer. Much of the course content is specific to Stanford, and is not covered in non-Stanford courses that meet the general requirements of AB1825. For example, Stanford’s course meets federal guidelines concerning sexual violence that impacts the student community.
If you are faculty or if you supervise staff, you are required to take a different course (SHP-0001). Please contact the Sexual Harassment Policy Office: shpo-training@stanford.edu or 725-0646, to consult.
These sexual harassment briefings are for new non-supervisory staff. They do not satisfy California's AB 1825 requirement for supervisors. If you have been identified as a supervisor by your department or HR/FAA, you must comply with this AB1825 training requirement for supervisors.
Unfortunately, the VA harassment training does not comply with California law regarding Sexual Harassment Prevention training. Stanford faculty who have appointments at the VA must complete Stanford’s supervisor training program to receive credit under the state mandate.
You do need to complete the 2-hour sexual harassment training to comply with the law (AB1825), because the Respectful Workplace Training does not meet the state training requirement.
Typically, if you’re appointed for less than six months you are exempt from this training requirement. However, you do need to complete the training if your appointment is ongoing and you return to Stanford for part of every year.
Please contact the Sexual Harassment Policy Office: shpo-training@stanford.edu or 725-0646.
Even if you work less than full time, if you supervise you do need to take the supervisor course (AB1825).
