To complete this test, students will translate (from Spanish to English) a reading (provided by the Spanish Language Program) of about 500 words. Students will also briefly summarize the reading. They may use their own print dictionary or dictionaries, but no verb conjugators.
For those students who would like to study for the exam independently, we recommend the use of bilingual books such as Angel Flores' First Spanish Reader to start and then Flores' Spanish Stories. Also, some novels such as El túnel by Ernesto Sábato (published by Ballentine) come in a bilingual version.
Others will want to take the Spanish reading course, SPANLANG 250, offered by Vivian Brates (vbrates@stanford.edu) during the Autumn Quarter on Monday/Wednesday from 12:30-1:20.
Contact Ali Miano (alimiano@stanford.edu) for further information.
There will be no summer examination.
