Our brand: Messaging

Stanford University is one of the most-admired and best-known names in education, and the School of Engineering is inextricably linked to the university. We benefit from positive associations with the university, and we exemplify the innovation and entrepreneurship closely associated with the Stanford brand.

Stanford employees can get a detailed guide to School of Engineering messaging on the school Intranet (login required). Guides to posting to the web, writing for the school and using social media are also available on the Intranet.

Our brand: Visual identity

Although the School of Engineering has many departments, labs, centers and other entities, our communications have the strongest impact when we are united under a single brand with a unified look and feel.

Every touch point – from business cards to social media and even the fonts we use – says something about the school and who we are.

Go to the DOWNLOADS page for logos, letterhead and PowerPoint templates.

Colors

Cardinal has been Stanford’s official color since the University’s earliest days and remains so today. Below is a sample, plus color codes for web, print and other uses.

Supporting colors are drawn from our campus architecture and the California landscape and fall into three categories: neutral, deep tone and bright.

  • Pantone: 201C, 201U
  • CMYK: 0-100-65-34
  • RGB: 140-21-21
  • Hex: 8C1515

We strongly recommend that you use neutral for all formal uses. Deep tone is appropriate for graphics, as in a Powerpoint. Bright is informal and should be used sparingly.

For examples and codes for all Stanford-approved colors, see the Stanford visual identity toolkit
