Stanford scholars co-author book featuring the faces of extinction

What are the faces of extinction? In a photo-rich new book, The Annihilation of Nature: Human Extinction of Birds and Mammals, Stanford renowned population biologist PAUL EHRLICH tells the stories of animals that have gone extinct and those that face an uncertain future. The book also calls for increased engagement and action for environmental restoration. Ehrlich’s co-authors are ANNE EHRLICH, senior research scientist emeritus and policy coordinator for Stanford’s Center for Conservation Biology; and GERARDO CEBALLOS, an ecologist at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. All proceeds from the book will go to the Navjot Sodhi Fund at the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab to support research by young conservation biologists. In this video slideshow, Ehrlich, a senior fellow at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, describes the unique characteristics and chances of extinction for various species ranging from the forest elephant to the mouse lemur.
